Kaiwu Mondello is a board certified, licensed, and insured acupuncture physician. She was born in Shandong Province, China which is one of the world's major producers of traditional Chinese medicinal herbs. She also obtained extensive training in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) from the Florida College of Integrative Medicine. Kaiwu specializes in the treatment of pain. She has been successful at stopping or dramatically reducing soft tissue related pain with just one or two treatments. Kaiwu has earned the trust of many patients because she has a deep passion to help them improve their lives through healing specific health issues.
As a TCM practitioner, Kaiwu understands how much acupuncture and herbal remedies can benefit people with chronic pain, especially lower back pain, sciatica and age-related health issues like fatigue, memory decline, muscle weakness, and many other health issues. She spends countless hours researching and preparing treatment plans including herb and food therapies for patients who come to her with all kinds of physical distress. Kaiwu recognizes that physical distress often results in internal emotional frustration, so she hopes to guide her patients back to the healthy, joyful living they desire.
Devoted to her family and her medical career, Kaiwu lives with her husband, Peter, and their now teenage son, Andy. She also enjoys cooking healthy recipes to share with others because she believes that good health starts with a healthy kitchen!

- Please arrive prepared to give us the full extent of your medical history including current medications, supplements, and medical devices that you use.
- Wear loose clothing. You may be asked to remove dangling jewelry as well.
- Also, prepare to have your tongue photographed. Tongue diagnostics are an important tool used in Traditional Chinese Medicine to gauge your overall health. If possible, please refrain from consuming any colored beverages or foods (coffee, green tea, matcha, soda-pop, milk or smoothies) prior to your appointment. However, we do ask that you arrive having eaten something nutritious and adequately hydrated with water and/or clear beverages.
- Expect to discuss your sleep hygiene, body temperature, eating habits, and constitutions.
- Prepare to be examined for tender areas, and possibly palpated where you're experiencing pain. This is an important time to vocalize what's painful because your feedback gives Kaiwu insight about your body's systems and how they might be functioning.
- Understand that acupuncture can take time to work. After the specific points on your body are stimulated with thin, sterile needles, you may be required to lay still a while. This is an important time to listen to the soothing music, allowing your muscles to relax, and perhaps even let yourself drift into a meditative slumber. Some people refer to this time as their “acu-nap” (a 15-30 minute time of rest). Allowing yourself to enter into this brief “siesta” physically helps your body heal by allowing it to naturally release the endogenous opioids and neurotransmitters that reduce inflammation, alleviate pain, and improve mood. For maximum benefits, we highly recommend silencing your digital device(s).
- Avoid exposure to major temperature changes such as cold, hot, wet, or windy environments at least four (4) hours following your acupuncture visit.
- Leave ear pins on, if tolerable, at least two days. If removal is necessary for comfortable sleep, you can use tweezers to peel them off just like you would remove a bandage.

Gua Sha (pronounced gwah-shah) is an ancient technique used to encourage the flow of Qi and blood within the body. It is performed using a massage cream or oil to lubricate the skin surface, then a hard stone tool is pressure-stroked repeatedly along meridian acupoints. Where there is a good flow the skin will glow it's natural color. However, areas with blood stagnation, scar-like tissue, or fascial adhesion will produce a dark reddish, brown, or purple colored petechiae spotting called "sha". Gua Sha has been proven to dilate capillaries, increase sweat gland secretions, promote circulation, and immediately reduce muscle soreness, stiffness, and cold paralysis caused by hypertension. Following a Gua Sha treatment you must keep the area warm and dry at least 30 minutes, avoiding direct exposure to wind, cold, heat, or dampness. Also, it is recommended that you hydrate with room temperature beverages that are lightly sugared/salted, such as electrolyte drinks and rest 20 minutes to allow the pores of your skin to close back up properly. The petechiae should disappear on their own within 3 to 6 days time.
Cupping is a therapeutic technique involving heated glass jars or vacuum-pumped plastic cups being applied to an area on the body, creating suction that clears blood stasis and encourages the movement of the Qi. Cups are left in place several minutes in order to relax tightened muscles, reduce pain, and stimulate healing. Cupping is a very effective treatment for chronic neck, shoulder, and back pain. It can also help to manage lung issues such as asthma. Cupping marks are superficial indications that the stagnant blood in soft tissue has been brought to the skin's surface for the body to naturally clear by the lymphatic system. Although the circle/ring marks are reddish purple in color, they are not bruises (those indicate deep tissue trauma). Cupping marks are superficial signatures that the treatment is effectively clearing stagnation, circulating vital life substances, and promoting your body's natural healing power. Marks typically disappear within a week.
Moxibustion is a therapy involving dried herbs, typically Moxa (mugwort leaves), being burned to warm an area of the body and stimulate blood flow.
Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) has harnessed the healing power of herbs for centuries, formulating healthy, naturally occurring nutrients into individualized remedies. Think of them as nutrient rich foods , dried up and ground down into a personalized formula to meet your body's needs!
